Here are the care tips we share with every customer across Essex County.
As soon as your flowers arrive, cut about 1–2 inches off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. This opens up the surface area for water absorption and keeps the stems from sitting flat on the bottom of the vase. We always do a fresh cut before your arrangement leaves our studio — but a second trim at home makes a real difference.
Fill your vase with fresh, cool water and add the flower food packet that comes with your Blumz arrangement. It’s a simple mix of nutrients and antibacterial agents that we include with every order — it really does help your blooms last longer.
Any leaves sitting in water will rot and create bacteria that shortens the life of your flowers. Take a moment to strip off any foliage that falls below the waterline — your arrangement will thank you.
We know how tempting it is to place your flowers in a sunny window — especially during those beautiful Essex County summers — but direct sunlight, heating vents, and nearby fruit bowls (fruit releases ethylene gas) can all cause flowers to wilt faster. A cool spot with indirect light is your best bet.
Swap out the water every 2–3 days and give the stems another fresh trim each time. It only takes a minute and prevents bacterial buildup, keeping your flowers hydrated and happy.
Some flowers — roses and hydrangeas especially — love a light misting with cool water. It keeps petals fresh and is a nice little ritual to enjoy with your arrangement.
